Newsbreak:FG lifts ban on twitter

The Federal Government has lifted the ban placed on the global media outreach, Twitter.

In a statement made available to Irohinoodua, the government says the lifting of the ban takes effect from Thursday this week. The communication icon was suspended following the sanction placed on a Presidential statement sent through Twitter by President Mohammadu Buhari.

A press statement signed by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Abdullahi said the Nigerians can now continue to use Twitter from Thursday.

He said “The Federal Government of Nigeria directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12 am tonight, January 13, 2022.

Sources said the lifting of the ban followed months of negotiation between Nigeria and the Twitter team.

 

Abdullahi said “The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.”
