Yoruba businessman hailed for multi-billion projects for locals in Enugu, Anambra

By Ologeh Joseph Chibu

A Yoruba man is building milestones among locals in Enugu and Anambra State where he had lived since he was born.

Apart from building hospitals, roads and homes for the people, he has earned himself as one of the most distinguished philanthropists in Igboland  even in the face of insecurity and threats to life occasioned by armed men operating in the South East and the activities of members of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, (IPOB) who a seeking a separate nation for the Igbo.

‘His is one of the most outstanding personalities in Igboland,’ Chuka Egbe, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, (UNN), told  Irohinoodua in a chat.

He said Gbadamosi also gives one million Naira each to women and their babies that deliver in a hospital he built describing him as the “strongest bridge between the East and West.”

According to him, the achievements of Gbadamosi in providing public needs speak to many issues: that Nigerians are accepted in Igboland, that Igbo people are not hostile to outsiders and importantly, that a Yoruba person can find peace and fulfilment in Igboland. He said he has ‘constantly ignited the prospect of cooperation between Yoruba and Igbo’, two grate civilisations that often seen themselves as arch rivals.

Speaking on the issue, the General Secretary, Alliance for Yoruba Popoola Ajayi said the contributions of Gbadamosi established the liberal culture of the Yoruba people. The AYDM is the biggest coalition of Yoruba groups with some

He said “The Yoruba have always been community builders. They do it without bragging about it. It shows clearly that Yoruba people support development wherever they find themselves. It also shows that the Yoruba are not enemies of any ethnic group including the Igbo.”

He said “Yoruba people have a communal spirit. Mr Gbadamosi is not building those structures in his town in Osun State but in territories that are not his. He is planting trees under which he does not necessarily need to take shelter for personal comfort.” He said the most significant aspect of his intervention is that he provides free services not motivate by primitive accumulation of wealth.

He said people like Gbadamosi should are the ones that deserve National Award.

“We are not surprised about what he has done. He even built roads worth billions of Naira in the South East. We are proud of him,” Ajayi said

Apart from roads, housing and the construction of a huge stadium, he is said to also provide scholarship to hundreds of people in secondary and universities  beneficiaries of which must be of Igbo extraction.

Ajayi said he was surprised that his achievements have not been adequately highlighted by the media.

For many in Nsukka, philanthropy is not just about financial aid but about creating lasting change. Mr. Gbadamosi embodies this philosophy, ensuring that his contributions leave a permanent mark on the landscape and lives of the people. His numerous projects span multiple sectors, addressing religious, economic, health, and infrastructural needs.

Commerce

Understanding the significance of places of worship in the lives of the people, Mr. Gbadamosi built a church for the community of Ibagwa. Faith is deeply rooted in the culture of the people, and this gesture reinforced the unity and spiritual growth of the community.

Beyond religious contributions, he also constructed a modern timber shed with shopping stalls, providing a commercial hub for traders in Ibagwa. This project not only created economic opportunities but also fostered community engagement and local business development.

Healthcare for the Vulnerable

Healthcare is a necessity, yet many communities in Nsukka struggle with inadequate facilities. Mr. Gbadamosi took it upon himself to change this by building and equipping the Ovoko Health Center. His intervention has significantly improved access to medical services, ensuring that residents, particularly women and children, receive quality healthcare without having to travel long distances.

Transforming Roads and Infrastructure

Road networks are vital for economic growth and connectivity. Mr. Gbadamosi has personally overseen the construction of over 20 kilometers of roads in Igboeze South Local Government Area and beyond. His commitment to road infrastructure extends further, as he is currently spearheading the construction of a road from Umeano Junction to Odenigbo Roundabout. This major project includes double drainage systems, asphalting, and streetlights—factors that will not only ease transportation but also enhance safety and aesthetics.

One of his most ambitious projects is the construction of a beautiful stadium in Ibagwa Aka. This sports facility provides young athletes with a place to hone their skills, fosters community engagement, and encourages youth development through sports.

Empowering the People

Mr. Gbadamosi’s impact extends beyond infrastructure. In December 2021, he empowered hundreds of residents by donating over 100 motorcycles. This initiative significantly improved mobility for many individuals, particularly those relying on transportation for their livelihoods.

An Omoluabi in Igbo Land

Beyond his philanthropy, Mr. Gbadamosi carries himself with dignity and respect, embodying the Yoruba principle of Omoluabi—a person of integrity and good character. He has navigated the complexities of Igbo politics with respect and diplomacy, choosing collaboration over conflict. Despite being born in Ibagwa, he does not claim entitlement to the land but has earned acceptance through his unwavering commitment to the development of the region. Unlike others who might boast of their contributions or undermine their hosts, he remains humble, ensuring that his deeds speak louder than words.

A True Definition of Philanthropy

Mr. Jimoh Rauf Gbadamosi’s contributions to Nsukka reflect a rare dedication to humanity and development. His philanthropy is not driven by politics or personal gain but by a genuine desire to uplift the communities that have embraced him.
