A prominent transporter, Muihili Adebayo has been abducted by armed men.

The abduction came less than 24 hours after Pan Yoruba groups held a security summit in Lagos where they called for capacity building for Amotekun, State Police and community driven defence in all Yoru a territories. Over 1000 people attended the summit.

In Owo, Adebayo was seized from his residence in the Shagari area of Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, during a violent attack by armed assailants on Wednesday night.

The attackers, who stormed Adebayo’s home, killed his son and critically injured his wife before forcibly taking him away. Adebayo, well-known for operating along the Akure-Lagos route, was reportedly ambushed and kidnapped under distressing circumstances.

According to a neighbour who spoke to IrohinOdua, Adebayo’s wife was shot during the attempt to resist the kidnappers.

“She is currently recovering in a private hospital, but the boy died on the spot. The mother sustained a bullet wound to her hand but managed to escape,” the source disclosed.

Following initial treatment, the injured woman was transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, where she remains in a coma. A family member, who requested anonymity, revealed that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N20 million for Adebayo’s release.

The family has since called on the government and the public for assistance in securing his freedom. Efforts to reach the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, for an official statement were unsuccessful at the time of this report, as calls and messages went unanswered.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
