Scores of Nigerians refuse to return home after Canada Conferences

Scores of Nigerians visiting Canada for international conferences have refused to return back to their home country
Many of them are sleeping under the cold winter in Canada with a vow never to return to their fatherland.
“They are all looking for asylum claiming persecution of right violations. Many of them sleep on the streets in Canada even in the face of the chilling weather” a source who does not wish to be named told Irohinoodua.
In the past few years, the harsh economic downturn has forced many Nigerians to flee the country
Though in the past few weeks, Nigeria’s new President Bola Tinubu has rekindled hope with signposts of reforms, doubts remain that the country can pick up swiftly from her slumber
Irohinoodua heard that many Nigerians seeking asylum in Canada are making false claims which includes fleeing Nigeria to religious or ethnic persecution, some falsely claim persecution arising from sexual orientation.
Statistics have shown that about 60-70% of Nigerian asylum seekers in Canada tell authorities they were being discriminated against for their sexual orientation.
The legal Aid in Canada is said to be worried that many of such claims may have been fabricated.
According to a reliable source many Nigerians now sleep on the streets of Toronto in their desperation to live in the North American country.
“In Toronto almost 20 Nigerians are sleeping out on the streets as shelters are full and they are looking for hosts. They came with visitors’ visas, to attend conferences, and already some have applied for asylum or planning to do so,” another source said.
