Ekiti: Police, Amotekun arrest suspected kidnappers

The security operatives in Ekiti State have arrested five people suspected to be connected with the Monday kidnapping of school children and teachers at Apostolic Faith School located in Emure-Ekiti.

On Monday, suspected Fulani herdsmen stopped a vehicle conveying pupils of the school to their various homes. The children were seized by people believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

Sources told Irohinoodua on Wednesday that the kidnappers have contacted the school and asked for N100m ransome.

The principal of the school,Boje Olanreti said the abductors are demanding for N100m. He said there were about 25 pupils in the bus when the incident took place and that the armed men asked all the pupils to alight.

He said they took five pupils, two secondary school students and three primary school children plus two teachers, the driver of the bus and one bus attendant

Meanwhile, the police have arrested five people, Usman Jelili, Mohammed Bande, Abubakar Aliu, Isah Abdullahi and Suleiman Abdulahi in connection with the kidnap

They were arrested following the invasion of the forest by a combined team of police, security operatives and Amotekun Corps.

Police sources said items recovered included daggers, shot guns, phones and other dangerous materials.

Monday, two traditional rulers were shot dead by suspected Fulani herdsmen when they opened fire on their vehicles. The Obas were returning from Kogi State where they earlier attended a function.
