VeryDarkMan says ₦180m hacked from account, Nigerians express doubt
By Samuel Ogunsona
Martins Vincent Otse aka Verydarkman has said a startling One hundred and eighty million Naira has been illegally removed from his account.
The funds were raised from individuals who contributed to the self styled social media actor who claimed he needed the funds to run a new Non Governmental Organisation dedicated to helping the poor and vulnerable.
Many Nigerians are now wondering how a whole N180m could be hacked from a single account without the knowledge of the account owner.
In an Instagram video posted Friday, Otse said that ₦180 million had removed from his account, leaving just ₦20 million remaining.
He said the amount was removed from his account without his knowledge.
“This is strange. It’s difficult to believe. I have never heard of a thing like this before. If such a huge amount is taken from someone’s account, the bank officials should able to trace it” Anita Udeze, a former bank official told Irohinoodua.
Another official of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) wondered how N180m could be taken from an account without any trace. The official who does not wish to be named said “I doubt the story. The police should probe further.”
There are also concerns that it should not be easy to transfer from corporate account where more than one signatory is expected to run.
The CBN official blamed some of those making contributions to the account.
“A lot of people are naive. This fellow claims to be a human rights activist but nobody cares to know about his background. Where he worked and what does he do for a living.”
He said there are human rights organisations that have been making sacrifices for Nigerians since the days of military rule but “these gullible Nigerians are not interested in making contributions unless to someone who rose on social media without any established background in human rights work.”
