Tinubu to launch 3hr Lagos-Abuja bullet train

By Samuel Ogunsona

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon inauguate the Lagos-Abuja fast train. The journey is expected to last for three hours instead of the current harrowing 10 to 12 hours.

Experts say the initiate will transform the Nigeria’s transportation sector with a significant reduction in travel hours.

The Lagos-Abuja railway is expected to be the busiest in Africa’s most populous country.

The bold project has created excitement in the business community.

The initiative will create thousands of jobs while housing units will be built in clusters along the rail lines, sources told Irohinoodua.

The Director of Operations at Geofocus Consortium, Yinka Idris said “Currently, travellers between Lagos and Abuja face long hours in traffic, safety concerns, and reduced productivity.”

The bullet train will provide a faster, safer, and more efficient alternative to road travel, the designers said.

The project is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and after completion, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reducing unemployment and fostering economic prosperity.

“As part of the development, ten smart cities with 10,000 housing units each will be built along the rail corridor” Yinka Idris said.

The project design has an independent power plant will also be constructed to support the train and surrounding infrastructure.

The Lagos-Abuja bullet train project has completed its feasibility studies and secured proof of funds.

It now awaits approvals from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) before construction begins.

The construction phase is expected to last between 48 and 52 months.

Upon completion, the project will be Nigeria’s largest-ever PPP-driven initiative and a benchmark for transport infrastructure across Africa.

Idris noted that the bullet train would reduce road congestion, lower carbon emissions, and extend the lifespan of highways, representing a major step toward sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure development.

“As Nigeria moves closer to realizing this dream, citizens can anticipate a future of seamless travel, improved quality of life, and enhanced economic opportunities under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Idris concluded.
