Tinubu approves National Paramilitary Academy

By Samuel Ogunsona

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the establishment of a National Paramilitary Academy.

The institution will be similar to the Nigerian Defense Academy, (NDA)

According to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the institution will take off soon.

Irohinoodua was informed that the institution will provide young citizens with paramilitary training, awarding degrees to those who complete the program.

As Dr. Tunji-Ojo explained, “We need a degree-awarding institution, like the Nigerian Defence Academy, that will train young persons after securing admissions through the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination.”

He emphasized the importance of this training, saying, “When they come out, they come out as officers, properly trained to contribute their quota to national security.”

In addition to the academy, President Tinubu has also approved the employment of 50 doctors and 100 nurses to provide medical care to inmates in custodial centers across the country.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will be posting medical doctors to these centers for their service year, recognizing the need to protect the rights of vulnerable members of society.

To address short-term medical personnel shortages, the Minister announced the approval of extending service beyond retirement age for existing medical personnel under the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
