Nigeria’s President Elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has been named as one of the 100 most influential leaders in the world for the year 2023
The new announcement is expected to boost Tinubu’s global image. He is the first Nigerian political leader to be listed in that category
Irohinoodua received the information on Thursday.
Tinubu won the February 25 Presidential election in Nigeria defeating Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Labour Party, LP Presidential aspirant, Mr Peter Obi.
The Time Magazine’s list is the most significant recognition of world leaders across the six continents
The 100 most influential leaders were picked “for changing the world, regardless of the consequences of their actions”.
Tinubu is currently overseas where he has been resting following a keenly contested but disputed Presidential poll
He is expected to be sworn in on May 29, 2023
Time Magazine listed the 100 2023 greatest leaders for impact adding that “Influence is hard to measure, and what we look for is people whose ideas, whose example, whose talent, whose discoveries transform the world we live in. Influence is less about the hard power of force than the soft power of ideas and example,”
Richard Stengal, former editor of Times, was quoted to have said.
The list was released on Thursday
Time Magazine placed the individuals in five categories: Titans, pioneers, artists, leaders, and icons.
Tinubu is listed alongside Joe Biden, president of the US; Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia and a few others in the “leader” category.
Tinubu was described as a “longtime political power broker” who seems “aware of his inheritance” in form of a “litany of crises in a fractured nation, including deep-rooted corruption, religious insurgencies, and shortages of cash, fuel, and power in a crumbling economy”.
