The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) has called for a nation-wide protest to condemn the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.
Deborah was killed by a mob who stoned her and later set her ablaze.
The police were said to have arrested the suspects an action that has fueled bitter protests in Sokoto by fundamentalists who oppose the arrest of the killers.
Reports said riots in Sokoto today led to the burning of Churches and the home of radical clergy, Bishop Kukah.
In a statement made available to Irohiboodua, CAN Secretary General, Joseph Bade Daramola said he got the instruction of the CAN President Samson Olasupo Adeniyi Ayokunle to instruct all Churches to organise the protest in the CAN secretariats in each state of the Federation.
Daramola said the protests would not take place on the streets but at the CAN Secretariats to avoid further loss of lives.
Daramola urged all Churches to participate in the rally slated for May 22.
