Release minors facing prosecution now, Tinubu orders

By Ologeh Joseph Chibu

At last, common sense has prevailed.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the release of several children facing treason charges.

Hardliners inside and out of the Government had insisted that the children be prosecuted even in the face of the bad image already secured for the Government globally.

The punishment for treason on Nigeria is death. President Tinubu himself was in the pro democracy movement and had escaped being charged for treason in the dark era of Nigerian history.

The world was outraged that a country in Africa may sentence children to death as portrayed in their arraignment in Court on Friday.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday ordered all the minors arrested and facing prosecution in court over their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernane to be released.

Tinubu asked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to meet the economic and material needs of the kids.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris told journalists on Monday.

He spoke at the State House briefing held in Abuja.

The Minister said that the President has asked all the law enforcement agents involved in the arrest, detention and prosecution of the minors to be investigated and anyone found culpable should be disciplined.
