NSA Nuhu Ribadu to lead panel on Ibadan explosion

The investigation into last week’s explosion in Ibadan has begun.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu will now lead the investigation.

He is expected in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital this week.

On the other hand, the Oyo State government is conducting forensic analyses.

Irohinoodua was informed that Ribadu will work with the Oyo State Government in getting to the root of the matter.

Explosion rocked Ibadan last week Tuesday leaving at least five people dead and no fewer than 70 people wounded.

At least one victim is expected to undergo brain surgery at the University of Ibadan, Irohinoodua was told on Monday.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, is also expected to arrive in Ibadan on Monday.

Last week, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, visited the scene.

He expressed shock at the loss of lives and property.

Justice Ariwoola hails from Oyo State.

President Bola Tinubu, in a show of solidarity, personally called Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde immediately after the tragic incident.

Sources said the expression of empathy occurred in the presence of Minister Dele Alake, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

“President Bola Tinubu, it would be recalled, placed a telephone call to Oyo State Governor, immediately after the tragic incident, in the presence of the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake to commiserate with Governor Seyi Makinde, victims, and the good people of Oyo state.”

The Ministry of Solid Minerals was said to have mobilized relief response in collaboration with the Oyo State Government.

A statement from the minister’s office said condolences were sent to the families of those who lost their lives and other victims. The minister also commended the Oyo State Government for mobilising relief response.”

“The ministry also deployed Mine Inspectorate officers to the scene of the explosion to join other security agencies to unravel the cause of the explosion.”
