Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, and providing an enabling environment for youth to excel in the digital space.
He says he will also position Ekiti as a leader in innovation and technological advancement in Nigeria.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Monday during the inauguration of the state’s first innovation hub, known as the “Ekiti Startup Garage,” Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the initiative is part of his broader vision to place Ekiti at the forefront of digital transformation, economic growth, and prosperity.
The Governor described the Startup Garage as more than just a physical space, calling it a “dynamic and comprehensive digital ecosystem” where ideas can be developed and transformed into impactful solutions for both local and global challenges.
“The Ekiti Startup Garage (ESG) is more than just a physical space,” said Governor Oyebanji. “It is a crucible for innovation, where techpreneurs, researchers, developers, and investors can collaborate to create groundbreaking solutions. This hub will also drive economic growth and job creation by providing access to state-of-the-art facilities, mentorship, and funding opportunities.”
He lauded the Ministry of Innovation, Technology, and Digital Economy for its dedication to making the project a reality, and assured the youth that his administration is committed to turning their innovative ideas into viable businesses that will stimulate the economy, attract investment, create jobs, and enhance the overall prosperity of the state.
“Today, we celebrate not just the opening of a facility, but the realization of a vision- one that places Ekiti State at the forefront of digital transformation, economic development and prosperity ” the Governor declared.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy, Mr. Seun Fakuade, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his steadfast commitment to youth development and for positioning Ekiti as a hub of innovation. He also announced the Governor’s approval of the first phase of the Innovation Enterprise Support Fund, aimed at empowering talented youths in the state to develop their ideas.
A significant highlight of the event was the display of innovative projects by young scientists, who presented their groundbreaking work to the Governor.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Hon. Idowu Odebunmi, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sport Development; Dr. (Mrs.) Habibat Adubiaro, Secretary to the State Government; Dr. (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi, Head of Service; and members of the State Executive Council.
