Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has announced the appointment of Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe as the new Rector of Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti. The appointment, which was officially approved by the Governor, will take effect on September 2, 2024.
The announcement was made known to Irohinodua in a statement signed on Wednesday August 21, 2024 by Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor.
Dr. Ajeigbe, a seasoned academic with a doctorate in Chemistry, previously served as the Deputy Rector at Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, Ondo State. He will be taking over from Prof. Johnson Kayode Adesodun, whose tenure as Rector is set to conclude on September 1, 2024.
Born on October 1, 1967, in Ayede-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area, Dr. Ajeigbe has an extensive educational background. He completed his secondary education at Ayede Grammar School in 1987 and later obtained a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Industrial Chemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 1992. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s degree (M.Sc) in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, both earned in 2003. Dr. Ajeigbe further advanced his studies at Universiti Teknologi, Malaysia, where he completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2017.
Dr. Ajeigbe’s professional career began as an Assistant Quality Control Officer at the National Salt Company of Nigeria Plc, Ota, between 1992 and 1993. He later worked as a Product Development Officer at Rockwool Nigeria Limited, Ota, from 1994 to 1997. In December 1999, he joined the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, as Lecturer II, rising to the rank of Chief Lecturer by January 2016. Over the years, Dr. Ajeigbe has held various academic and administrative positions, including Head of Unit, Head of Department, Coordinator of Accreditation Programme, and Director of the Directorate of Research, Development, and Innovation.
In February 2023, Dr. Ajeigbe transferred his services to Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, where he continued his academic and administrative journey, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Rector in September 2023.
Governor Oyebanji expressed confidence in Dr. Ajeigbe’s ability to lead Ekiti State Polytechnic to greater heights, citing his extensive experience as an academic, administrator, and innovator. The Governor also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Rector, Prof. Johnson Kayode Adesodun, for his dedicated service to the institution and wished him success in his future endeavors.

In addition, the statement concluded with the Governor commending the Chairman and members of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic for their thorough and transparent handling of the selection process. “The Governor extends his appreciation to the Chairman and members of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic for the painstaking manner they handled the selection process.”
