Over 300,000 Boko Haram Members repent in 3 Years -says Zulum

By Samuel Ogunsona

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has revealed that the state has received over 300,000 “repentant” Boko Haram members in the past three years.

The figure is almost the same with the number of combatants in the Nigerians Army.

Zulum said not all of these individuals are fighters, with some being farmers.

He spoke while highlighting the complexities of the insurgency in the region.

He emphasized the need for a multi-faceted approach to tackle the crisis, including kinetic and non-kinetic measures.

The Governor also called for increased manpower and air support to combat the insurgents.

The Governor’s comments come amid a surge in attacks and kidnappings in Borno State, attributed to Boko Haram and its affiliate, Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Zulum condemned the continuous attacks, noting that they occur almost daily without significant resistance from security forces.

Zulum’s administration has been working to rehabilitate and reintegrate repentant Boko Haram members into society.

The Governor’s statement expose the challenges of addressing the root causes of the insurgency and the need for a comprehensive approach to security and development in the region.
