Newsbreak: Ogbomoso gets new Oba, Soun

A new Soun of Ogbomoso may be announced soon.

Reliable sources hinted Irohinoodua that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde may have approved the selection of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso.

Prince Olaoye is a successful businessman based in the United States. The stool became vacant following the death of the traditional ruler Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III in 2022.

The source said the State Governor dispatched a letter to the Afobaje, a group of Chiefs responsible for the selection of the King last Friday indicating the approval of Prince Olaoye as the new Soun.

The official announcement is expected to be made soon

Ogbomosho is one of the ancient cities in Yorubaland. Several centuries ago, the city was established in the mid 17th century.

The founder of Ogbomoso, Soun Olabanjo Ogunlola Ogundiran, was the first Soun of Ogbomoso. He had five sons, Lakale, Kekere Esuo, Eiye and Jogioro.
