The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II was sighted at the Kuje prison on Tuesday this week during his visit to the former Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Mr Godwin Emefiele.
The respected traditional ruler called for the release of the suspect.
The Ooni’s visit was a surprise to many who cannot understand the relationship between the exalted stool of Ooni, the Yoruba distinguished traditional leader and a former CBN Governor whose policies enslaved and destroyed the cultural and economic heritage of Nigerians, Yoruba inclusive.
“We are seeing many embarrassing developments. Why should the Ooni visit Emefiele. What does he want to achieve? This was Emefiele that destroyed Nigerian economy” a media user, Kingsley Makanju wrote.
Another twitter user, Ebun Majekodunmi wrote ” What is the business of Ooni with a notable crime suspect who is yet to account for billions of money stolen?”
No fewer than 2million Small and Medium Scale Enterprises collapsed after Emefiele introduced the Naira swap which impoverished many Nigerians.
Millions of people lost their jobs while there were cases of people committing suicide apart from those who lost their lives for inability to procure needed medicine.
The Ooni visited the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele in Kuje Prison, Abuja.
A broad spectrum of Yoruba people on the social media have expressed a mix of shock and surprise at the visit of the highly respected King.
Emefiele has been making desperate moves to ensure his release from prison.
Emefieled was said to have used his official position to awar contacts worth 1.2billion to a crony apart from a chain of benefits he derived from the policies he introduced at the heat of the Presidential election in February this year.
The contract was for the procurement of 43 vehicles.
He was earlier kept in prison by the Directorate of State Security Services, (DSS) before he was released but later arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).
