The Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the resumption of the Lagos Blue Line project.

The line targets 74 trips in one day in a unique enterprise that addresses Lagos chronic transport challenges.

In a recent announcement regarding the resumption of the Blue Line Rail, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, cautioned the people of Lagos against using the Blue Rail Line tracks as a marketplace.

This warning was issued on Monday after the temporary suspension of the rail service over the weekend.

This development was made known to Irohinodua, in a post by Governor Sanwo-Olu on the X platform via @jidesanwoolu .

He stated, “I am happy to announce that the LRMT Blue Line is back on track energised with an increase in trips from 12 trips to 54 trips per day and this will rise to 74 trips by the end of November, thanks to the hard work of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.

“The first trip starts at 6:30 am and your daily commute has now become even smoother with a schedule you can plan around as well as with the Cowry Card and discounts to help you plan your expenses better.

“We temporarily paused the Blue Line this weekend for your safety, and now we have fully energised the line for a brighter future,”

“Please do not attempt to access the rail tracks for any nefarious or otherwise activities and it bears repeating that the train tracks are not a marketplace.”

Furthermore, on Monday, the Lagos State Government issued an order to reopen the Mile 12 International Market, which had been temporarily sealed on the preceding Friday. The decision to reopen the market was made following a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. This assessment encompassed factors such as environmental compliance, waste management practices, and overall cleanliness within the market.

Commissioner Wahab emphasized that matters concerning the environment, public health, and safety were non-negotiable. The government would not stand idly by as these essential values were jeopardized and undermined by the actions of a minority.

“We cannot continue to be nonchalant about our environment. Our negative attitude towards the environment must stop.

“The way we treat the environment is the way the environment treats us. We cannot fold our arms and allow the nonchalance of a few to affect the generality of the people.

“Following full compliance with environmental standards and safety measures earlier listed as a precondition for reopening shut markets, the Lagos State Government has ordered immediate reopening of Mile 12 International Market.”

He encouraged the traders to adhere to established standards, with a particular emphasis on hygiene for their own well-being and the health of the public. He emphasized that the government would not hesitate to close down any market that reverts to its previous unsanitary practices.
