Ahead of the January Presidential election in Ohanaezd Ndigbo, one of the major candidates, Dim Uche Okwukwu has promised to unite Igbo people and calm fractured nerves.
Dim Okwukwu also said he would work around the clock with communities, youth organisations and social-cultural groups in Igboland to bring an end to any form of violence in the South East.He said he will work hard with all political stakeholders to ensure the immediate release of the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu who is currently being held by the Nigerian Federal authority
The position of the President of Ohanaeze has been zoned to Rivers State where Okwukwu comes from
Speaking during his courtesy visit to the first Professor of Igbo Philosophy, Uzodinma Nwala, he said he would work with all stakeholders to bring peace, justice and greater honour to the Igbo Nation.
“I will build on Tuesday achievements of my predecessors. Of topmost priority to me is peace, justice and harmony in Igboland. I will reunite my people and ensure we present a common front in the campaign for justice for Igbo in Nigeria.”
He said as a former students union leader at the University of Ife and given his reputation in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria, he was in the best position to address the fears and aspirations of the Igbo people in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.
“I’m leading the Igbo in one of the most difficult moments in our history. I have no illusion about what the Igbo wants..I prepared to lead Igbo in Nigeria and across the world in a way that would make Igbo worldwide to be proud,” he said
Meeting with the Eze Aro of Arochukwu at the Arochukwu Kingdom, Abia State, Okwukwu said he would work hard to ensure that Igboland becomes the first priority of investment for Igbo at home and in the Diaspora.
Both Professor Nwala and Eze Aro praised Okechukwu for his past and present contributions to the economic and cultural uplifment of Igboland adding that they were ready to give him full support in the bid to lead Ohanaeze as the President
