Ogun teacher flogs student to death

By Samuel Ogunsona

A teacher has flogged a student to death.

The incidence took place in Ogun State on Friday.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the teacher flogged the student several times and asked him to frog jump for over 100 times.

The student, Monday Ariyo of Obafemi Grammar School, Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State was accused by the teacher of verbal insults.

Witnesses said the incident began when the teacher, whose identity remains undisclosed, brought a trash can to Ariyo’s class and warned pupils not to break it.

Ariyo jokingly replied that the dustbin was bought with students’ money, offending the teacher.

The teacher sought permission from the principal to punish Ariyo.

Contrary to initial reports, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola clarified that Ariyo received 24 strokes of the cane, not 164, and was also ordered to perform 162 frog jumps. The excessive physical punishment allegedly took a devastating toll on the student.

Ariyo collapsed and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A disturbing video circulating online shows Ariyo struggling to speak and groaning while on a hospital bed with a drip.

The police have confirmed the incident and launched an investigation into the cause of death. Ariyo’s body has been deposited at the Ayetoro mortuary for an autopsy.

The incident has raised concerns about corporal punishment in schools and the need for accountability.

Authorities have yet to comment on potential disciplinary actions against the teacher or school administrators.

Many has demanded justice for Ariyo and his family.
