At least ten people of Hausa extraction that tested positive to COVID-19 in Ilusin, a sleepy Ogun State Community have ran away, a Community leader said today.
Prof Segun Awonusi, on behalf of the Ilusin Traditional Council in a statement obtained by Irohinoodua said the 10 Hausas in Ilusin after testing positive escaped while another 19 resident at Ibiade and Ita Otu are isolated in Ita Otu, all in Ogun State. There are fears that many migrants into the communities from Northern States may compound the public health situation in host communities.
According to him, the results of those tested in Ilusin is out adding that two have been confirmed positive while four others are temporarily negative but need second testing to confirm if they are now positive because they are reported to have very high temperatures while the remaining four are confirmed negative
According to him, testing has not been carried our on another set of 19 Hausas in Ita Otu yet because the medical team in Waterside say they have run out of testing materials
He said in ilusin, the community quickly identified between five to seven locals who had contact with those who that escaped and have isolated them
“We contacted the DPO and Council Chairman who, as usual, said they there is no fund or logistics on ground. I had to call the state Governorand explained the situation and challenges we face. He confirmed he had been briefed about those who escaped to Ago Alaye in Ondo State after testing tested and that he had alerted his counterpart, the Ondo State Gov Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu on the development.
He said further that on the instructions of Mr Gov, the Secretary to the State Governor, (SSG) and later the Special Assistant on Health got in touch with the community to find out what the State Governor could do immediately.
Prof Awonusi said further “I also want to express profound gratitude of Ilusin and Ogun Waterside community to the Governor for his listening ears and prompt directives given to his aides to help our people. We also express our profound appreciation to the SSG (Mr Talabi), Dr Omojole, SA to the Gov on health the Ogun State COVID-19 response team and Dr Fayomi and local health team in Waterside for their efforts to handle the challenges. We equally should thank the Oba of Abigi who has been monitoring and feeding the group in Ita Otu.”
