No US citizen involved in Anambra killing, says State House

There was no single citizen of the United States killed in the armed attack on US Embassy convoy in Anambra on Tuesday.

Four people were killed in an ambush in Anambra State on Tuesday.

Two personnel from the US consulate and two police officers were killed.

Three others, according were kidnapped by the armed gang.

The attack took place in the southeastern Anambra state, with Anambra Police Command telling CNN that the attackers “murdered two police operatives and two staff of the US consulate and set their bodies and their vehicles ablaze.”

The White House on Wednesday said the Embassy officials killed were not US citizens

John Kirby of the US National Security Council said “No US citizens were involved and therefore there were no US citizens hurt,”

He said further “We are aware of some casualties, perhaps even some killed.”

Deputy Superintendent of police Ikenga Tochukwu said “No US citizen was in the convoy.”

Anambra has seen a string of armed attacks on civilians and security operatives.

As at press time, it is unclear which group was responsible for the recent attacks on the US Embassy staff.

A police source said investigations to the incidence has been launched.
