Nigerian Students may not seat for WAEC in 2020, says FG

Secondary school students in final year in Nigeria may not take part in the 2020 West African Examination Council, (WAEC) the Nigerian central authority said this evening.
The FG said the students will not participate in the forthcoming West African Examination Council(WAEC) examinations due to the associated COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Wednesday after the week’s virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Adamu said there is no date for school resumption yet.
He said he would prefer Nigerian students to lose an academic year rather than expose them to health risks.
The decision of the Federal Government is expected to be communicated to the regional body where the country account for some 60 percent of the students taking part in the subregional examination.
Nigeria recorded a spike in COVID-19 spread peaking at over 30,000 as at this week. In the past three weeks since the lockdown was relaxed, Nigeria has been recording average of 20 percent increase every week
