The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed the legendary footballer, Finidi George, as the new Super Eagles coach.
George was a member of the Golden Team of 1994 that lost to Italy which later won the World Cup.
The appointment comes after he he won 2-1 against Ghana and a 2-0 defeat against Mali in friendly matches.
NFF announced Finidi’s appointment via their official website on Monday.
“The Board of Nigeria Football Federation on Monday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint former ace winger Finidi George as Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, Super Eagles.” The statement read.
However, Finidi George, who was Chief Coach of one of Nigeria’s leading football clubs, Enyimba United, spent 20 months as an assistant to the outgoing José Santos Peseiro, before his appointment as an interim coach.
According to NFF “George, a member of the so-styled ‘Golden Generation’ that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Tunisia and emerged as the second most entertaining team in Nigeria’s debut at the FIFA World Cup finals in USA the same year, won 62 caps for Nigeria, including featuring at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup finals,”
