Nigeria seeks gas investors for Industrialization as Minister lists benefits

The Nigerian government is actively seeking investors’ participation in gas development to accelerate its industrialization agenda. The Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas),Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo,
highlighted the crucial role of gas sector investment in driving industrialization, job creation, and improving the livelihoods of Nigerians.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of a 20,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) depot project in Atabrikang, Aquaha, Ibeno Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Ekpo commended Windek Energy Limited for its vision and commitment to Nigeria’s energy security and economic prosperity.

According to a statement by the Minister’s Spokesman, Louis Ibah, Ekpo emphasized that the project would contribute to ensuring affordable LPG supply, commonly known as cooking gas, to Nigerians, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s energy security journey.

“This project marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards energy security and economic prosperity. It will enhance access to clean and affordable cooking fuel,” the Minister empasized.

Ekpo expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State government for creating an enabling environment for investments to thrive, highlighting the fruitful collaboration between the public and private sectors in the state.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, represented by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, thanked Minister Ekpo for facilitating the establishment of the gas plant. He assured the Minister and Windek Energy Limited’s management of the security of contractors and staff, as well as the support of the host community in realizing the project.

Managing Director and Chief Executive of Windek Energy Limited, Mrs. Nosa Okunbor, emphasized the project’s potential to stimulate economic growth, foster innovation, and create new industries and value chains in Akwa Ibom State. She highlighted its significance in enhancing energy infrastructure and improving quality of life, particularly in ensuring safer cooking practices for households.

“This project is not just about enhancing energy infrastructure, but about enhancing life such that our mothers will cook without hazards to their health,” she expressed.
