Niger: Algeria to supply electricity after Nigeria cut off energy
By Ologeh Joseph
The Government of Algeria has agreed to supply electricity to Niger Republic.
This follows the
decision of Nigeria to cut off electricity after General Abdourahmani Tchiani took over power in the land locked country.
Nigeria was the main supplier of electricity to Niger. For the past one week, many parts of Niger had been without light.
A prominent leader of All Progressives Congress, APC in the North Adamu Garba in his Twitter handle on Friday said he was aware that Niger will now receive an alternative to its power supply from Algeria.
He wrote “Algeria is to supply electricity to Niger Republic for free.”
Earlier the Algerian government has expressed displeasure at the threat by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS to use force in its bid to install democracy. The regional body meets again this weekend in Ghana.
