Newsbreak: UAE resumes Visa to Nigerians

By Samuel Ogunsona

The United Arab Emirates, (UAE) has lifted the ban on visa issuance to Nigerians.

The Middle-East will now issue Visa to Nigerian passport holders starting from today, 15 July, 2024.

This was contained in a statement by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, while briefing the State House correspondents on Monday, following the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC). The statement was made available to Irohinoodua

UAE had in the last 2 years suspended visa issuance to Nigerians following a period of protracted diplomatic row with Africa’s most populous nation.

Flights between both countries were stopped last year after Dubai’s Emirates airline suspended its operations in Nigeria citing trapped revenues.

The carrier said it could not access and repatriate its funds amounting to $85 million withheld in Nigeria.

However, In September 2023, President Bola Tinubu met with UAE President, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi, to strengthen the ties between both countries.

The Emirates Airlines suspended in 2022 is expected to resume operation in Lagos from 1 October 2024, operating a daily service between Lagos and Dubai.
