Newsbreak: Tinubu approves 70,000 minimum wage
By Omolade Adegbuyi
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a total amount of N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
The new increase represents more than 100 percent increase from the initial N30,000 paid to workers in the past five years.
The Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC) and the Federal Government have been on each other’s throats since March over what should be the minimum wage for Nigerian workers in the face of mounting economic challenges with inflation hitting some 33 percent.
The central labour union was yet to respond to the latest decision.
Irohinoodua was informed by sources in Abuja that on Thursday the President gave his nod to the increase.
“The President has just increased minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 representing a significant step in meeting demands of workers” a source at the Presidency said.
The Federal Government is mandated by law to increase the minimum wage every five years.
