Newsbreak: Supreme Court upholds judgment on Bayelsa
By Ahmed Ajao
The Supreme Court review committee this morning has upheld its earlier judgment upholding the sacking of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate in the November, 2019 Gubernatorial election, David Lyon.
In its decision today, the Supreme Court said the ruling delivered by Supreme Court Judge, Hon Justice Mary Odili was in order.
The APC candidate, David Lyon had been declared the winner by the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC) prompting the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to rush to the Election Petition Tribunal. The case ended up at the Supreme Court when five Justices unanimously declared the PDP candidate, Duoye Diri as the duly elected Bayelsa State Governor.
The APC was represented by high-level lawyers including Chiefs Wole Olanipekun and Afe Babalola.
With the ruling, it is expected that the Supreme Court will not upturn the ruling in Imo State where it ruled that the All Progressive Congress, (APC) candidate, Hope Uzodinma won the election as against the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC) declaration of Hope Uzodinma as the duly elected Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) candidate Emeka Ihedioha.
