“My wife cries for fear of being a widow” says Mailafia

By Hakeem Aboh

The Department of State Security, (DSS) have invited former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank,(CBN) Dr Dr Obadiah Mailafia.

Reports reaching Irohinoodua indicated that Mailafia is expected to appear before the DSS on Wednesday.

The DSS asked him to appear by 12noon on Wednesday in its Jos,Plateau State capital.

Sources told Irohinoodua in Jos that Mailafia who has been critical of the on-going attacks on his ethnic minorities was invited based on his latest interview where he said a State Governor in the North is alleged to be a commander of the extremist group, Boko Haram.

Dr Mailafia was reechoing media reports linking top politicians in the North with violent extremists.

In a short message today, Mailafia said his wife was crying saying she does not wish to be a widow in apparent reference to threats to Mailafia’s life by people opposed to his critical views about the killings in the North

A statement released to the media on Tuesday evening urged Nigerians to show solidarity to the cause of Dr Mailafia who has been leading the campaign against violence in his ancestral home.

“We should come out in solidarity of our father and illustrious son of the struggle, Dr Obadiah Mailafia. He has been invited by DSS Headquarters, Plateau State, Jos, tomorrow at 12:noon over his Radio interview in Lagos few days which he boldly pointed out that one of the Governors of northern Nigeria is a commander of Boko Haram” the statement noted.

Dr Mailafia has consistently argued that violence in the North could be brought to an end through political will and a genuine committment to peace building and reconciliation among the warring groups.
