Newsbreak: Armed men kill 8 soldiers, policemen

At least eight security operatives made up of soldiers and policemen were on Tuesday killed by armed men in the South East State of Imo.

The police in the state confirmed in reports monitored by Irohinoodua that the armed men targeted the soldiers and policemen who were caught unawares.

Some of those killed were members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,(NSCDC).

The attack on the soldiers and policemen took place in the morning hours at Umualumaku community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

A local said the security operatives were in a truck on their way to an assignment when armed men attacked them.

Their trucks and other vehicles were then set ablaze.

Sources said the corpses of the security operatives have been recovered and taken to the mortuary.

The police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye confirmed the incidence but did not give further details.

Our correspondent heard that the police were yet to confirm who may have been responsible for the attacks.

In another development, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen kidnapped a Catholic priest and six others at the weekend.

Reverend Father Marcellius Okide a Parish priest of St Mary Catholic Church,Amofia-Agu Affa in Udi Local Government area of Enugu State was seized by the armed men around 5pm on Sunday. The incidence took place between Eke and Affa-Egede Road. He was returning after attending the Church service at his Parish
