Armed men have killed no fewer than 11 soldiers and policemen in an ambush in Zamfara State.
The security men were in a convoy of construction workers being protected from bandits when the same armed men attacked and kill them.
The incidence took place on Thursday some 24 hours after armed men kidnapped several people on a highway that linked two major cities, Funtua and Guzau.
“The attackers posed like labourers. They waited for the convoy and attacked the lead and rear vehicles” a trusted local source told Irohinoodua.
The source said the victims included at least five Police men and some soldiers.
Many were said to have sustained injuries during the attack on the convoy on its way to Tsafe Local Council of the State.
Zamfara and Katsina have seen waves of violent intra ethnic violence between Hausa and Fulani which seems to have assumed a life of its own with each ethnic group leading it’s own arms race.
The police source said troops escorting Setraco workers on their way to Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara encountered an ambush but that the team lost three soldiers and five policemen ,and their riffles were taken by the terrorists.
The source said despite the ambush and the loss, troops neutralized many of the terrorists during a fierce gun battle that followed the ambush.
