The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a public warning about the illegal purchase of pre-registered SIM cards, highlighting the severe consequences, including possible imprisonment.
The NCC emphasized that using pre-registered SIM cards poses significant risks, such as involvement in identity theft, financial fraud, kidnapping and cases of armed robbery.
The commission said pre-registeres SIM cards compromise the accuracy of consumer information and hinders efforts to effectively track and apprehend criminals.
By relying on pre-registered SIM cards, the integrity of consumer data is compromised, making it difficult for authorities to identify and catch the real offenders. The NCC’s warning aims to educate the public on the dangers associated with pre-registered SIM cards and to promote adherence to legal guidelines, ultimately enhancing national security.
