MOSOP MOURNS DEATH OF KEN SARO WIWA’ S SON

MOSOP morns death of Ken Saro Wiwa’s son

By Bisi Ajeigbe

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP, has confirmed the death of late Ken Saro Wiwa’s son.

MOSOP in a condolense statement made available to Irohonodua said it was deeply saddened and shocked over the death of one of Ken Saro Wiwa’s sons, Menegian Saro- Wiwa, in the UK on Monday, April 13, 2020. Irohinodua had reported the death of Menegian on Thursday.

The statement signed by Chief Keeper Gbaranor,
Chairman, MOSOP National Transition Council said the news of Menegian’s death was received from his twin sister, Noo, who confirmed that he died of coronavirus.

“We said goodbye to my brother, Gian, on Monday. He had Covid-19 combined with underlying health conditions. Gian was the smartest and most talented out of all of us: a champion sprinter at school, a poet, an artist, budding engineer, a self-taught guitarist and pianist. But mental health issues limited his life from age 16 onwards”, she said.

According to Noo, “I took this photo of him a few months ago before he was hospitalised. We were singing Hysteria by Def Leppard, a song we both love. Although, the side-effects of medication altered his athletic physique, this photo still captures Gian’s essence: a kind and beautiful soul, always wanting the best for his family, always praying for our future success while being eternally optimistic about his own”.

MOSOP described his death as “devastating, sad and painful to the Ogoni people and compatriots in the struggle for justice, a course championed by our leader and hero, Ken Saro- Wiwa”

MOSOP said it sympathizes and shares the pain with the immediate family and calls on the entire Ogoni people to pray for the remaining members of the Wiwa’s family.

“We are however, consoled with the fact that the good works, name and legacy bequited us by our hero, Ken Saro-Wiwa, remain indelible and live on” the statement noted.

Menegian, born in 1970, was the last remaining son of the marriage between Ogoni matyre and environmentalist, Ken Saro wiwa and Maria.
He leaves behind a son, Louis.
