The Lagos State University (LASU) is set to confer honourary Doctorate degree on former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
The event holds on Thursday as part of the activities marking the 26th convocation ceremony of the 40 year old institution
Others to be honoured are the former Lagos State Governor, Babarunde Raji Fasola, the Chief of Staff to the Nigerian President, Gbajabiamila among others.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu will attend the event.
Dignitaries invited by the institution included a first class traditional ruler, Oba Saheed Elegushi who is to be be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree.
Dr Fayemi who has received numerous awards from several institutions home and abroad has also been recognized by some Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Federal government and civil society organizations (CSOs) for his enormous sacrifices and selfless efforts in promoting sustainable development.
He has previously served as Ekiti State Governor between 2010 and 2014 before losing re-election to Ayodele Fayose. Dr. Fayemi became the Minister of Solid Minerals Development in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet from 2015 to 30 May 2018, when he resigned to contest for a second term as Governor of Ekiti State.
Fayemi who was also the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum was appointed as the pioneer president of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FORAF) in 2022.
The award is in recognition of His contribution to Humanity and promotion of National Development in Nigeria and Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said the institution will mark its 40th year Anniversary
She said the opportunity would be used to honor individuals who have contributed positively to the society.
Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will also be present at the conferment slated for the main auditorium of the institution in Ojo, Lagos.
