Lagos to feed 100,000 youths daily

The Lagos State Government today announced plans to feed 100,000 youths across the 57 Local Government areas. The State Government said it has completed a comprehensive data mapping out the households in need.
Speaking this evening in Lagos in a press event monitored by Irohinoodua the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the programme will begin this week as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of the economic lockdown. Hundreds of youths began protests across the state during the week fueled by anger over the lockdown which affects the business of many low income earners and artisans.
“We are going to provide food for 100,000 youths once daily. This is part of the economic intervention programmes to ease the conditions of many indigent people in Lagos” Sanwo-Olu said.
He also announced plans to distribute to distribute raw food to several households across the state. “We are going to provide foodstuff to households including artisan groups, organized groups and ethnic leaders” Sanwo-Olu said.
The Lagos State Government also announced pardon for traffic offenders whose cars were confiscated by the police beginning from March 31. Sanwo-Olu said those who obtained loans from the Lagos State Government have been given a three-month interest free window to lessen the impact of the economic meltdown.
The regular food vendors will be employed in the provision of food for various categories of people in the state. He said the State has identified 109 suspected COVID-19 patients from randon sampling conducted in 180,000 households.
He said the economic package will benefit the people of Lagos irrespective of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
