Lagos electoral body begins public education, stakeholders’ forum

Ahead of the Local Government election slated for the end of July, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, (LASIEC) will on Monday begin a weeklong public interactive programme.

The programme is in partnership with Greysand Global Resources Ltd, an institution dedicated to the promotion of democratic values

The organisers said the events slated for the Lagos three Senatorial Districs is in line with the time honoured tradition of encouraging public participation in the democratic process in Lagos State.

The theme of the event is 2021 Local Government Elections Stakeholders Forum: Taking ownership of the Electoral Process

In a statement on Thursday signed by Mr Adeyinka Jeje on behalf of LASIEC, and made available to Irohinoodua the programme targets stakeholders including but not restricted to traditional rulers, media, professional groups, labour, civil society and voters.

Dignatories expected at the event which begins on Monday at the Afe Babalola Hall, University of Lagos are LASIEC Chairman, Hon Justice Ayotunde Philips,
Electoral Commissioners,
Permenent Secretary, Mr Samson Ajibade amongst many others. Other events will hold on Tuesday at Grand Ovation Events Centre, Ipaja, on Wednesday at The Events Centre, Alausa while the last day of the event holds at the Musical Village located in Ikorodu

Jeje said special consideration will be given to vulnerable groups like youths, women and the physically challenged.

“LASEIC is interested in a credible and transparent election that will be in line with best practices in democratic countries across the world. The electoral body will constructively engage all the stakeholders for their input and also to listen to and address their fears and aspirations.”

The programme, he said is not driven by partisan politics but by public interest adding that all registered political parties will participate in the programme.
