There were deep concerns on Tuesday in Kano following the increase in the number of fresh deaths recorded between Monday and Tuesday this week.
Our correspondent in Kano had reported that about 30 fresh bodies were buried in Kano cemeteries within the first two working days of this week.
On Tuesday, media reports counted at least 150 mystery deaths over the weekend.
“We are deeply worried about the increasing number of dead people in Kano. It is alarming. On Monday and Tuesday, we buried 30 people”, Mallam Saliu Kuta told Irohinoodua on Tuesday.
He said in addition to the earlier deaths, the number is now about 180 deaths recorded in five days. He said “We have never seen a thing like this before. People are dying, its happening suddenly.”
Kano had recorded a sudden leap in COVID-19 increase peaking at 59 on Monday. The increase is the highest ratio the country has recorded in 24 hours. Earlier the state had recorded only 11 cases.
One undertaker, Ahmid Sanni told Irohinoodua that the number of deaths is giving a lot of concern to local authorities. “This is quite surprising. We are not sure of what is killing them. We recorded 150 last week and the two days of this week, we have buried 30 people”, he said adding that there were great concerns about what may be responsible for the deaths.
The top local governments affected are Tarauni, Kano, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Gwale, Dala, Ungogo and Fagge.
