Kaduna Police ban procession by Islamic Movement

By Ologeh Joseph Chibu

The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a banned planned procession of the Islamic movement of Nigeria in the State.

The police also placed a seal on all forms of unlawful gatherings by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, including their planned Ashura procession. ASP Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday in Kaduna.

Irohinoodua obtained a copy of the statement.

According to Hassan, “The command has prohibited any illegal protests in the state.” This action follows intelligence reports indicating that the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ite, intends to conduct a procession to observe the 2024 Islamic Ashura day ceremony.

“The recent history of this ritual has been marked by severe violence, resulting in property damage, injuries, and loss of lives,” Hassan stated.

In light of these concerns, Hassan warned members of the proscribed sect against proceeding with the procession, emphasizing that they are already prohibited by law. “The Police Command will not hesitate to enforce the full extent of the law against any individual or group, particularly members of the outlawed IMN, who defy this ban,” he added.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Dabigi, urged law-abiding citizens to continue their lawful activities without fear, underscoring that the state’s hard-earned peace should not be jeopardized by the actions of a few ‘renegades.’
