Ousted former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa on Thursday said he is back as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa made this bold statement on Thursday, arriving at the Assembly complex under heavy security.
Sighted by Irohinoodua he was accompanied by police officers and operatives of the Directorate of State Security Service, (DSS).
He said “I’ve resumed and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly.”
He said he was making his return to the Assembly for the first time since his removal on January 13.
This move has created a leadership crisis.
In January, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda was elected as the new Speaker after Obasa’s removal.
Obasa’s return is seen as a challenge to the current leadership. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the next days.
The Assembly has faced tension since Obasa’s removal, with accusations of poor leadership style, perpetual lateness, high-handedness, and abuse of office and privileges, among others.
Few days ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made efforts to intervene in the lingering feud.
The leaders of All Progressives Congress, (APC) were invited to wade into the matter.
Those that attended the ontervention meeting were the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, former governors of Osun, Ogun and Lagos, namely Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Akinwunmi Ambode.
They were at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina, Lagos, for a meeting last Sunday
Members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, the Lagos chairman of the APC, Cornelius Ojelabi, and a former party, Tunde Balogun attended the meeting.
