More facts have emerged on how nine armed men led the attack on three Yoruba traditional rulers. Two of the Kings, Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olusola Olatunde and the Elesun of Esun, Oba David Ogunsakin were brutally murdered.
Bugaje, during interrogation by the police said he and eight others were responsible for the murder of the two traditional rulers. ‘We have nine AK47. We killed the two Obas’ Bugaje said. He said the intention of his team was to kidnap the traditional rulers. He said his team left the scene when they noticed that the Kings were dead.
Baguja said his team live in the bush where they keep their guns. He listed other members of his team as Umar, Sidi, Alli, Arafat, Buba Wakili, Sanni, Bello and Abubakar. He said his team was responsible for the murder of the kings. He said each of them was armed and that the guns were usually kept at Ayedun in the bush near Ayebode.
Baguja spoke in smattering Yoruba claiming that he hailed from Ilorin. Security experts however told Irohinoodua that his claim that he came from Ilorin is a ruse, a decoy.
‘There are Fulani from Ilorin but every Fulani in Ilorin speaks fluent Yoruba language. The way he spoke indicated that he is Fulani but not from Ilorin’ a police intelligence officer told Irohinoodua.
Baguje said four of them shot at the traditional rulers adding that immediately after shooting the Kings, his team ran away.
‘After shooting them we ran to Ayebode. We decided that when we hear the security are after us then we would run away’ Baguje said
The two Obas were brutally murdered on January 29 on their way from a meeting on security organised by some of the traditional rulers in Ajoni Local Council Development area. The third traditional rulers, Alara of Ara-Ekiti escaped.
Baguje said he has been involved in robbery and that it was not the first he would be involved in crime. He said at Irele-Ekiti, his team once stopped vehicles and robbed passengers. He said he had been involved in kidnapping of at least three people at Irele and also at Ilorin in Kwara State.
