Herdsmen kill vigilante head in Kwara

By Kunle Ogooluwa

Suspected armed herdsmen have killed the head of the community vigilante in Igbaja, Kwara State. Igbaja is located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

At the weekend, hundreds of village folks stormed the Palace of the Isese of Igbaja, the Oba with leaves lamenting the killing of their local security hero.

Some of the protesters said they sleep with one eye open and that Bororo killers targeted the leader of the community vigilante with the plan to decimate the growing resistance against them.

Locals informed Irohinoodua that the Akogun of Igbaja was killed by armed Bororo men shooting him after a bitter encounter.

“He is the head of local security in Igbaja. He has been leading the local hunters for many years. He is a man of courage. He has made a lot of sacrifices for our community,’ Saliu Adio Salami, an official of the Igbaja Vigilante told our correspondent in Igbaja.

He said the armed men have been operating in the area for more than ten years.

“We are at their mercy. Life means nothing to them. They kill and rape our people at random,” he said adding that the community had made a lot of representation to the police and Army in the area without any effective response.
