Herdsmen kill Nollywood actor in Ogbomoso

By Malik Saliu, Ilorin

A rising Nollywood star, has been shot dead by people suspected to be herdsmen.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the Nollywood actor, was killed on Monday at the Ogbomoso-Ilorin highway.

The popular actor, Juwon was one of about nine artistes on their way to a film production in Kwara State through Oyo State. Several people in the encounter were said to have been kidnapped after the violent siege. The incidence took place at a place called Otte, sources close to Irohinoodua stated. The murdered artiste was said to be an aide of popular Yoruba actress, Toyosi Adesanya.

“The vehicle conveying the artistes was attacked on Ogbomoso-Ilorin road. The herdsmen shot at the vehicle. Some of the occupants were wounded. One of the shots hit Juwon. Help could not immediately come. People were scared. Many ran away hearing the gunshots. Juwon died and some others were kidnapped”, a source close to the scene told Irohinoodua. The source said the herdsmen were armed with sophisticated weapons. There has been grave concern about increasing armed banditry spreading from the Margreb region to Nigeria. The Nigerian government has intensified efforts to stop the tide blaming the increasing attacks on foreign armed elements

The source said “The herdsmen jumped on the road. They started shooting sporadically. In the process, Juwon was shot. They later took away some victims. No ransom has been demanded.”
