HEDA Urges EFCC to fast track prosecution AGF over N109bn scam

By Samuel Ogunsona

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has been asked to speed up the trial of former Accountant General of the Federation, (AGF)

Foremost anti corruption group, Human And Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) called for the quick prosecution of the suspended AGF Idris Ahmad, over N109bn fraud.

HEDA Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, in a letter to Executive Chairman of the EFCC Abdulrasheed Bawa, asked the anti graft group to commence criminal prosecution against all suspects.

HEDA asked the EFCC chairman to fast track action on the report of the EFCC operative, Hayatudeen Ahmed, who investigated the allegations against the Defendant over N94.39billion.

The huge sum was paid into the second defendant bank account.

Ahmed who investigated the case informed the court that the second defendant distributed in money which was converted to US dollars between the former Deputy Governor of Abia state and Commissioner with the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) was given 44million US dollars and the Commissioners of Finance in the 9 oil-producing states were given 49million US dollars among others.

“As a leading Anti-Corruption Organization and Non-partisan Human Rights and Development league with the mandate to protect and promote universally recognized human rights, public accountability, transparency and environmental justice in Nigeria and Africa, in accordance with International best standards, we urge EFCC to commence deeper investigations and criminal prosecution of all Nine (9) Commissioners of finance in the 9 oil producing states in Nigeria and others actors involved in the alleged N109 billion fraud and conspiracy perpetrated by the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation; Mr Idris Ahmed.

“These monies was meant to alleviate the sufferings, pains, environmental hazards and poverty of the oil producing states but brazenly diverted by those entrusted to represent their interests. This singular action has impoverish the Nigerian citizens in those areas at this critical period. These sadists should never be allowed to go scot- free,” he added.
