Seven individuals sustained injuries in an explosion that rocked a steel company in Ogijo, situated within the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday evening.
Information gathered by our correspondent showed that the incident unfolded at Phoenix Steel Mills in Ogijo, causing significant damage to the company’s infrastructure and affecting its entire production line.
Promptly responding to the situation, the Ogun State government swiftly ordered the closure of the company. Mr. Ola Oresanya, the State Commissioner for Environment, conducted an on-the-spot assessment at the scene and mandated the immediate shutdown of the iron rod manufacturing facility.
In adherence to the state’s regulatory framework for industrial safety, the government pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the root causes of the explosion. This investigation aims to identify both the underlying and immediate factors contributing to the incident, with the ultimate goal of preventing similar occurrences in the future.
Officials say the investigation will establish stringent operational guidelines for the company, ensuring the safety of its workers and safeguarding the surrounding communities from potential harm.
The injured individuals were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital in Ikorodu, located in Lagos State, for medical treatment.
In a related development, the Ogun State government has taken decisive action by sealing off several gas factories, citing concerns over recurrent explosions attributed to the use of adulterated industrial gas. This move underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing public safety and preventing further industrial accidents.
