A group of armed men have kidnapped a middle aged man in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The victim, sources told Irohinoodua is an official of the Lagos State Government.

The armed men were in hoods when they stormed a residence in Igbe-Oloja, Ikorodu, Lagos earlier this week, witnesses said.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the attackers struck around 9pm on Monday.

“They shot into the air. They were about seven of them. They stormed the building and whisked away the official who had just returned from mainland Lagos” the source told Irohinoodua on Wednesday.

He said the armed men appeared to have come in a speed boat.

Such incidence of kidnapping of Lagos coastal residents was rampant in 2015 linked to militants operating in the Niger Delta.

The gory event led to a series of meetings between the Ijaw leaders led by Chief J. P Clerk and the Pan Yoruba group, Afenifere led at that time by Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

The two groups met at the Eko Hotel leading to joint efforts that eventually calmed growing ethnic discord between Yoruba and some elements from the Niger-Delta.

It is uncertain if the recent incidence of kidnapping of the Lagos official has anything to do with Niger-Delta militants.

An official of Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movements, AYDM Mr Sunday Akinnuoye told Irohinoodua that the South West is perpetually at risk.

He said ” It’s not the fault of those who torment Yorubaland. How can the protection of pipelines in Yoruba territory be given to non Yoruba people? We are at the mercy of enemies that surround our land”, he said adding that the South West territories are vulnerable because the security of the land remains in the hands of non indigenous people and groups.
