Shoroye, a medical icon, goes home

By Abraham Ariyo

With profound sadness and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Dr. Adeyinka Shoroye. He was a distinguished pediatric physician and allergy expert in California, USA. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his grieving family.

Dr. Shoroye’s compassionate and gentle nature touched all who knew him. His clinical expertise, camaraderie, and infectious smile will be deeply missed. He pursued excellence with enthusiasm and dedicated himself to enhancing healthcare worldwide.

Dr. Shoroye epitomized the spirit of the Diaspora and the impact Diaspora physicians can have on the healthcare landscape in Nigeria. His unwavering dedication to improving healthcare in Nigeria led him and others to establish the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA). This organization celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

As a founding member, he poured his heart, soul, and resources into nurturing the young organization as it grew into its current stature.

In 1995, he invited me to contribute an article on the Healthcare brain drain in Nigeria for the inaugural newsletter of ANPA. Dr. Shoroye worked tirelessly to sustain the organization during its early days, ensuring its eventual success. Notably, in the pre-digital era, he was renowned as the “Nigerian Medical Directory” publisher, featuring profiles of Nigerian physicians and surgeons in the United States and Canada for nearly three decades. I have included a copy of the 2000 edition, showcasing his meticulous work and distinctive Signature.

Brother Shoroye, your earthly journey has come to an end. You were a courageous warrior, fighting tirelessly for a noble cause. Rest now in the bosom of the Lord until we meet again.

Abraham Ariyo, M.D.
