Niger Coup: France defiant on quit notice given to Ambassador in Bamako

The French Government has rejected the request of Niger coup leaders who requested for the withdrawal of the French Ambassador to Niger.

On Friday evening, Niger coup leader General Abdourahamane Tchiani requested for recall of the France Ambassador to Niger, Sylvain Itte, after he had refused to attend a meeting scheduled for Friday with the country’s foreign minister.

The Niger coup d’état occurred in Niger, in which the country’s presidential guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum, and presidential guard commander, General Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself the leader of a military junta.

However, 48-hours ultimatum has been given to Sylvain to leave the country’s capital, Niamey, according to the Nigerien Foreign Ministry.

“France has taken note of the request of the Putchists,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Furthermore, He started that the approval of the France ambassador to Niger Republic comes from the elected Nigerien President, Mohammed Bazoum saying any attempt to force out the ambassador from Niger would become illegal.

He said “Putschists have no authority to make this request, the ambassador’s approval emanating from only legitimate Nigerian elected authorities,”.
