
Gunmen hijack school bus in Ondo State, kidnap staff

Armed men suspected to be herdmen have hijacked a school bus in Ondo State.
Sources told Irohinoodua that the school bus belongs to Chimola Private School. The incidence took place at Oba Ile, a suburb of Akure, the Ondo State capital
‘About ten of the armed men who came on Okada stopped a vehicle conveying pupils to a private school. There were only guardians in the bus. I think the kidnappers miscalculated. They thought the bus was filled with pupils. They stopped the bus and ordered the few occupants to lie down. They were fully armed” an eye witness told Irohinoodua in Akure.
The source said the gun men later abducted the staff and the bus.
‘Some of them left the scene on Okada while some took the bus and the occupants away. It appears the targets were students of the school . Seems they took what was available to them’ a police source said adding that the incidence has been reported to Amotekun and efforts were being made to locate the victims and the criminals.
Early this year, a Pan Yoruba group, Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA) had warned that armed terrorists would soon begin to kidnap pupils in private and government schools in the South West.
On Wednesday, Amotekun Commander in Oyo State, Brigadier Kunle Togun warnes that the South West was already surrounded by armed Fulani and Tuareg terrorists saying they would soon begin to viooently attack the entire South West.
Some gunmen on Thursday morning has reportedly hijacked a bus belonging to Chimola School in Oba Ile Estate of Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo state.
Blaze Newz gathered that the gunmen abducted staff who was on duty to convey students to school.
The incident occurred around 7am while the driver and the abducted staff were moving round to pick up the pupils.
The gunmen numbering about eight who were on motorcycles, rounded the vehicle with registration number —Lagos LSD 853 FJ, forcing the driver to stop, a source said.
He said the men dragged the driver down from the vehicle and threatened to kill him.
