By Ologeh Joseph Chibu

The Management of Dangote Refinery has said the company employed over 30,000 skilled Nigerians working with expatriates in the construction of the Refinery Complex.

The Management made this public revelation to debunk an online publication by some media organizations claiming the company employed 11,000 skilled workers from India, while allegedly neglecting youths from Nigeria and other African countries.

The Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina said the report was written with malicious intent as it did not reflect the number of skilled Nigerians on site.

He said the magnitude of the project requires specialized, skilled workforce from all over the world, among the skilled workforce are 6,400 Indians and 3,250 Chinese workers were engaged alongside over 25,000 Nigerians.

He expressed high level of technical competence alongside other several hidden skills discovered within the Nigerians engaged on the project.

The Dangote Refinery is a subsidiary of the Dangote Group which was founded in 1981 by Aliko Dangote, it currently is Africa’s biggest oil refinery, it was established on a 6,180 acres site at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lekki, Lagos State where it was inaugurated on the 22nd of May 2023, when in full operation it is projected to produce at least 650,000 barrels per day and provide nothing less than 100,000 permanent jobs in the region.

Chiejina advised to public to neglect such twisted reports, and instead focus on the potential impact of the project on the overall economy and well being of Nigerians, as Dangote Group continues to be the leading light in employment generation.
